Fulbright experience in Benin
"We’re in Parakou, Benin while I serve as a Fulbright Scholar in the Sociology Department at the Université de Parakou (UP). It’s a mid-size town of somewhere between 400,000 to 400,000 residents a 7-hour drive from Cotonou, the economic capital. We’re loving our time here. Our children attend a local Catholic school, where they get to practice their French every day. I’ve taught several classes at the university, both for the sociology department and at the American Corner (a U.S. Embassy cultural center at UP). In addition to official responsibilities, we’ve had a lot of memorable moments as a family, including attending a funeral celebration (and I do mean a celebration!), had dinner with friends, played American football in the streets of Parakou, walked the slave trail of no return, and taught with the missionaries."
